Import a backup policy

Importing a previously exported policy enables you to duplicate an existing policy or leverage it as the starting point for a new one. You can import a backup policy into any corporate hierarchy or geographical instance of Connected to which you have access.

Before you begin

Backup policies consist of many different components. To ensure that your policies meet your specific backup requirements, it is important to know how key policy components work and interact with each other. For information to help you better understand backup policies, see the following topics:

In addition, keep in mind that Agents apply policies based on a file’s extension not its binary signature.

To import a backup policy

  1. Click the POLICIES tab, click IMPORT (), and then click Backup.

  2. Select the policy file to import, and then click Open.

Connected validates the file against the backup policy XSD file. If the validation succeeds, Connected saves the policy as a draft and opens it for editing. Otherwise, it displays the first validation error encountered and cancels the import.

  3. To save changes to the policy, click one of the following:

    • SAVE & PUBLISH. Saves your changes and notifies Agents of the new policy. Upon receipt, the Agent rescans the user's computer based on the new policy.
    • SAVE. Saves your changes as a draft version of the policy and does not activate it.
