Collaboration FAQ
Here are answers to common questions about using Connected to collaborate with others.
The Collaborations page of the Connected web application contains the set of collaborations that you can access, including any that you own. To open the Collaborations page if it is closed, click the FILES tab, and then click the COLLABORATION tile. For more information, see View and print collaboration files.
No. There are no restrictions on the type of files that collaborations can contain. In addition, Connected does not limit the number of files or folders in a collaboration or the size of each file.
Files that you upload to a collaboration become the current version of the file in that collaboration. If the collaboration already contains an active or deleted file with the same name and location, it becomes the previous version of the new file.
Connected determines whether to recover a deleted file as a previous version based only on file name and location, not content. Therefore, the recovered file might not relate to your new file. For example, suppose that you delete a sales report named Report.txt
from your Connected folder. A few days later, you create a new Report.txt
file about a business trip and upload it to the same folder as your deleted file. Connected recovers your previously deleted sales report as the previous version of your new trip-related file.
A folder conflict occurs when you recover a deleted folder and a similarly named active one exists in the same location. When the Connected web application detects this type of conflict, it automatically recovers the folder as a conflicted copy.
Conflicted copy folder names have the following format: originalName(timestamp)
, where timestamp
is the date and time that Connected creates the copy. To resolve the conflict between a conflicted copy and the current version of a file, either:
- Merge the two folders into a single one with the original folder name, and then delete the conflicted copy.
- Remove one of the folders. If you keep the conflicted copy, change its name back to the original one.
Connected provides conflict management to ensure that it does not overwrite the current contents of a folder. Therefore, if you recover a deleted folder and a similarly named active one exists in the same location, Connected recovers the folder as a conflicted copy. For more information, see the FAQ What is a folder conflict? What is a conflicted copy of a collaboration folder?

When you click a collaboration file, it opens. Therefore, if you click a file, the web application displays it; if you click a folder, the web application lists its contents. To select a specific item instead of opening it, click the image that precedes its name. For example, to select a document named Report.txt
, click .
To select multiple items, press and hold either the Command (macOS) or Ctrl (Windows) key while you click each item's image.
When you delete a user that owns collaborations, Connected also deletes their collaborations. Other members of the collaboration can no longer access those collaborations but anyone viewing a file at the time of deletion can continue to view the file until they close it.
No. Connected automatically keeps collaboration members informed of changes for you. When you create a new collaboration or add someone to an existing one, the new members receive notification by email. Similarly, if you update an existing collaboration's file, the application also sends members an email. All email notifications contain a link to either the new collaboration or the updated file so that members can easily access it. To prevent unauthorized access, Connected ensures that only active members of the collaboration can access it through the link.
NOTE: Connected does not notify members when you remove files from a collaboration nor does it notify members that you remove.
