User and device retention overview

When you delete a user or device, Connected retains it for a specific grace period before permanently deleting it. This retention period allows you to restore the item if necessary. The length of each grace period defaults to 35 days for users and 35 days for devices. By creating custom retention policies, you can override these grace periods for different groups.

If necessary, you can bypass grace periods by using retention a policy having grace periods of zero (0) days. For example, suppose you create a user in error an want to permanently delete it and any associated devices and data. To do so, create a retention policy with user and grace periods of zero days and assign the user to it. Then, delete the user.

NOTE: Ensure that you assign the new policy to the user before deleting them. Changing the policy of a user currently pending delete has no affect.
